The Zwickau Region has around 100 schools: primary schools, secondary schools, vocational schools, grammar schools and special needs schools. The nearest schools are always close by: 30 out of the 33 towns and cities have primary schools; secondary schools can be found in 19 districts; 15 cities have grammar schools; and 9 districts have various special needs schools.

Academic focus and educational approach varies between schools, which range from the international school (centring on languages) to Christian schools, through to schools focusing on special educational needs, specialist grammar schools, and vocational schools.
