The community initiative AG Zwickau was established to meet the diverse challenges facing the district of Zwickau: demographic change, structural change in the automotive industry, the energy transition, and environmental and climate protection. Its goal is to better connect business and local administration in order to enhance the attractiveness and image of the Zwickau region as a place to live and work.
In 2018, therefore, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Chemnitz, the Zwickau Regional Chamber, Zwickau City Council, Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH and the Zwickau District Office joined forces to draw up an Integrated Regional Development Concept (IRDC). This laid out the following fields of action, used to make decisions regarding applications for the regional budget:
- A secure and innovative business location
- Infrastructure and sustainable use of resources
- The Zwickau Administrative District: a great place to live
